RSDT Toolkit: Administrative Toolkit Overview

"Random student drug testing (RSDT) is a tool for early detection and empowering parents and school personnel to help drug-using students before severe damage occurs. Parents almost universally report that their sons or daughters were using drugs for several months before they were able to determine what was causing problems in school, sports or home."
- Joyce Nalepka, President, Drug-Free Kids: America's Challenge and member of IBH Board of Directors

A student drug testing program is only successful when:

  • It is treated as a tool for a preventative not punitive approach to drug abuse.

  • It is added as part of a larger comprehensive drug-free program.

  • The program adapts to the unique school environment involving students, parents, teachers, administrators and the local community.

The following toolkit provides the necessary steps one should take to achieve a successful student drug testing program.

These steps include:

"One of the best ways to prevent addiction is to stop it before it starts. Drug abuse begins at increasingly early ages in America, so effective prevention strategies must be focused on young people. Because it targets at-risk youngsters, student drug testing is one of the most promising new prevention approaches."
Robert L. DuPont, President of the Institute for Behavior & Health
