Chain of Custody - the process of tracking specimen collection and handling from initial collection to final analysis

Confirmation test - confirmation of a second test to find presence of drug after first initial test is completed

Cut-off Detection level - the level that the presence of a drug can be detected by an initial or confirming test

For-cause testing (Reasonable Suspicion) - drug testing based on a reasonable belief that a student is using or has used drugs in violation of the school's policy

Mandatory - eligible individuals who could be tested for drugs must agree to be part of a drug testing pool or they can not participate in the activity for which there is testing

Medical Review Officer - a physician with knowledge of drug abuse disorders used by the school to evaluate drug test results

Random Student Drug Testing - The process of randomly selecting eligible individuals for testing. All individuals included in the drug testing pool have an equal chance of being tested.

Screening test - initial drug test performed

Specimen - type of sample collected, hair, saliva, or urine

Verification test - Performed by the Medical Review Officer. This test is to verify the result of a drug test to identify whether that result is accurate and to identify legal use of prescription drugs.

Voluntary - individuals eligible to be tested have the option of volunteering to be part of the drug testing pool
