Students: How Other Students Feel About Drug Testing

Students: How do you feel about student drug testing?

Here are some thoughts from high school students who made comments or statements about how they felt about student drug testing:

"It'll give kids a good reason to say 'no.' It could be you, any time, who gets tested. So in the back of their minds, that's what they're thinking." Student, Yukon H.S

"For some people, the drugs are worth giving up playing football, playing basketball." former student

"If you have probable cause for somebody doing drugs, then test them. If you don't have a purpose, what's the point?" student, Alvin (TX) school district

"The ones (athletes) that are as dedicated to what they are playing will feel the way I do,' said Kelly, 16. "But everyone should have it, not just those who are out there running." Banning High, CA

"I'm clean. If they come up and say, 'Hey, give us a drug sample,' that's fine, just hurry up so I can get to class." New Braunfels ISD student

"Considering the stuff that goes on, I don't consider reefer a problem. People are snorting Xanax and Valium. I heard a girlfriend talking about it in the bathroom." Junior at Hickory H.S. (NC)

"I think (the policy) already is successful. You still have students grumbling, and you still have students saying, 'We feel like we're being treated unfairly.' But it's serving it's purpose. It's stopping kids from using drugs." Student, Charlotte Catholic High School (NC)

"I think it's necessary," said one junior, "I think if they do the testing, then they might not do drugs because they won't want to get caught." Banning High color guard, CA
